other activities...

With the long daylight hours during the summertime, the Hebrides offer a wide range of outdoor activities.

Golf
"In golfing circles it is the discovery of the decade, something akin to scraping the paint from an amateur oil picture and finding a Michelangelo masterpiece underneath.  But is an original ‘Old Tom’ rather than an ‘Old Master’ which has been found under the sod and sand of a tiny Hebridean Island”
wrote Calum MacDonald from The Herald on 20th March 2006.

Askernish Golf Course is 3 miles from the hotel and lies on the West coast of the island.  It has been rediscovered and experts from all over the world are restoring the links course to its 18 hole former glory.  For more information regarding the golf course use this link www.askernishgolfclub.com

Why not combine all the five unique island courses from Barra to Lewis.  Visit www.golfhebrides.com.

Diving
Crystal clear waters allow you to savour the array of fauna in and around the islands.  St Kilda off the west coast of the Hebrides is well recognised as one of the world’s best diving sites.

Kayaking/Canoeing
The Hebridean coastline is abundant with beaches, cliffs natural bays and coves.

Windsurfing
You’ll find large firm sand beaches along mainly the west coast of the islands.  With the unhindered winds and long summer days many a windsurfer is seen on the lochs or the sea and wind carting and kite surfing are becoming increasingly popular.

Further information on any outdoor activities can be found on www.outdoorhebrides.com and sea safety guidelines can be obtained from our local tourist information centre.

Cycling
One of the best ways to see and explore the Hebrides is by bicycle.  Quiet roads and unhindered views give you a panoramic view of the stunning scenery and wildlife and gives you an insight into the gaelic culture that makes the Hebrides so unique.  Maps of routes around the islands are essential and can be obtained from the tourist information centres.  For more information see www.cyclehebrides.com

Walking
There are hardly any restrictions on walking around the islands.  New pathways and walks are currently being developed and what better way to soak up the unspoilt raw beauty that is the Hebrides.  For further information see www.walkhebrides.com

Birdwatching
We as a family and as a hotel are members of the RSPB who provide a series of talks and guided walks throughout the season.  You will see the spectacular fishing techniques of the Gannets and the rare beauty of the 7ft wing span of the Golden Eagle.  The elusive Corncrake which has been pushed to the edge of extinction arrives in the Uist from late April.  More information can be obtained from SNH, Loch Druidibed Nature Reserve. Western Isle Wildlife also provide wildlife holidays and bird tours in the Outer Hebrides
